The room is fine as long as the house is open. Then the weather changes, the insects come out, rain moves through the valley, smoke lingers, or the evening air turns still. The doors close. The casual breeze disappears. The one room everyone expected to use suddenly feels heavier than it did an hour earlier.
That is a common comfort decision in South Turramurra. With Lane Cove National Park wrapping around three sides of the suburb and walking tracks close to many homes, indoor comfort can depend on what happens when the outside can no longer do the work.
The best air conditioning plan is not always for the largest room. It may be the room the household retreats to when the house has to close itself off.
The room used when the outdoors stops helping
Some South Turramurra homes rely on natural airflow for much of the day. A family room, sitting room or rear lounge may feel pleasant when doors are open, and air is moving through the house.
Once those doors close, the room can change quickly.
