Air Conditioning For Big Houses

Choosing the right type of air conditioner for your home can be somewhat of a confusing task. Though they all work on providing cold air to improve the home temperatures and make everything a little more pleasant, when you look at all the different types of models, brands and sizes of air conditioners, it’s completely understandable if you don’t know where to start.

For instance, you may have heard Mitsubishi Electric is a great AC manufacturer, but do you know which AC of theirs is best for you?

Let’s look at some popular air condition unit types, and see which ones are best for a big house.

First, the Inefficient Ones

The wrong air conditioners run your electricity bills through the roof, so it’s important to stop and consider which models can address your needs.

The two main ones to avoid are portable air conditioners and window units.

Portable air conditioners are the ones that you place inside your home and give off cool air to make the environment more pleasant, but it’s just a small step up from a fan. It’s a good option for smaller apartments that allow air to easily run through all the rooms, but not efficient for a big house.

The same goes for window units – they are great for an apartment, but there are a lot better outdoor units out there for a big home. Though it is rather energy-efficient, it will need to work overtime to larger spaces, running costs for electricity pretty high.

The Best Air Conditioner for Large Houses

Now that we got the inefficient ones out of the way, let’s look at some better air con options for your big house:

1. Split System Air Conditioners

Split system air conditioning units come with 2 or more boxes, one that’s placed inside the one, and the other, noisier one outside. Together, they can provide all the cold air you need in your home.

In some cases, a single split system may not be enough if you have a multi-floor house with a lot of square metres, but there are also multi-split systems available that can address this issue, leaving the house fully protected from the hot weather.

These air conditioning systems can also cover the home’s heating and cooling needs since most work on the reverse cycle air conditioner principle.

2. Ducted Air Conditioner

A ducted system uses ducts to carry air throughout your entire home. By far, this is the best option for homes with lots of square metres. It’s energy-efficient and allows for easy temperature control, and like split systems, it can handle both heating and cooling.
